About us.

Digital Unity Hub is proud to stand alongside organisations like Connecting Scotland, Mhor Collective, and Live Life Aberdeenshire in the shared mission to eliminate digital poverty. Our vision is to create a world where everyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance, has equal access to the life-changing opportunities that digital connectivity provides.

My name is Ashwanth (Ash) Vijay, a Chartered Engineer with 15 years of experience in the UK energy sector. In October 2022, I founded Digital Unity Hub in response to the stark realities of digital exclusion exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. It became clear that access to a digital device and reliable internet connection is no longer a luxury—it is a basic necessity for participating in modern life.

In today’s world, digital access is essential not just for education and employment, but also for healthcare, banking, communication, and maintaining social connections. Without it, people risk falling even further behind, widening an already critical gap. Digital Unity Hub exists to bridge that divide—one person, one workshop, and one connection at a time.

Yet, over 700,000 people in Scotland remain digitally excluded. Initial efforts to tackle this issue have slowed as we return to a post-pandemic “normal.” That’s why I stepped forward to become the Digital Champion of North East Scotland—with the support of Connecting Scotland and training from Mhor Collective.

Since 2023, I’ve been running monthly digital skills workshops, first at the Ellon Royal British Legion for ex-servicemen and women, and now at Ellon Library in collaboration with Live Life Aberdeenshire. These sessions aim to empower individuals with the confidence and skills to participate fully in the digital world.

Digital exclusion is not a personal failing—it is a systemic challenge. And bridging this divide demands a collective effort. Through Digital Unity Hub, I invite other individuals, organisations, and institutions to join in building a more digitally inclusive future for all.

320+

Individuals Supported

Since October 2022, Digital Unity Hub has supported over 320 individuals across Ellon and the wider North East Scotland region. Our monthly digital inclusion workshops have reached a diverse cross-section of the community—including ex-servicemen and women, older adults, job seekers, and individuals facing social or geographic isolation. Many participants arrived with limited or no digital experience, and through hands-on guidance, left with the skills and confidence to navigate online services, connect with loved ones, access employment resources, and participate more fully in today’s digital society. Each session is a small but vital step toward breaking down barriers and building a more inclusive, connected future.
